Miscellanious

Software Engineering:

  • 1993-1996: Development of the initial 3D-version of the software toolbox UG. It allows for the solution of (systems of) partial differential equations arising from complex real-world problems using highly efficient algorithms like multigrid methods, unstructured grids and local grid refinement.
  • 1997-1999: Development and implementation of parallel, object-oriented solution strategies for large, sparse discrete equations arising from systems of nonlinear partial differential equations and of parallel, object-oriented graphics facilities in the framework of UG.
  • since 2000: Development and implementation of methods for numerical bifurcation analysis of (systems of) partial differential equations. Design of application-specific tools for geometry and grid generation and realization of a high-level, abstract user interface (Perl) for applications arising from environmental science.

The toolbox UG has been licensed more than 300 times, worldwide.

    Project Management:

  • 1995-1998: Management and control of the software development in the project ''Schnelles Grundwasserprogramm'' (Fast Groundwater Program), financed by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with approximately 2.5~Mio.~Euro. The project has been executed in cooperation with the universities of Bonn, Erlangen, Freiburg, Hannover, Stuttgart, Z"urich and employed 12 researchers and technical assistents.
  • 1995-1998: Scientific head of the group responsible for the development of solution strategies in the project ``Schnelles Grundwasserprogramm'', Stuttgart University. Main emphasis was on the development of efficient, scalable, parallel solving algorithms.

    Further Activities:

  • Various lectures and talks on international conferences, workshops, summer schools on numerical mathematics, scientific computing and environmental sciences.
  • Reviewing activities for international journals on numerical mathematics, scientific computing, computational physics and environmental sciences.
